Teaching evaluation excerpts

  • "Professor Burstein's form of teaching contributed most to my learning. His powerpoint presentation slides were very well-planned and organized. On screen it appeared in a simplistic format, but the Professor used each bullet point to elaborate further. He provided clear explanations while simultaneously providing examples of the concepts covered in class. He answered our questions and provided helpful reading material, which elaborated further on the course content."

  • "The midterm assignment was such a creative way for us to engage with our learning. The debate-style midterm allowed us to take a deep dive into Israeli politics in a fun way, which I really appreciated. Not once did I feel like it took away from the quality of education I was receiving."

  • "The way the professor conveys information in lectures contributed most to my learning. He doesn't just read off PowerPoint slides, he actually goes in-depth into the material which is incredibly helpful! Would also like to note that Prof Burstein is easily the best Pol Sci instructor I have taken so far at UCI. I wish I'd have taken him earlier!"

  • "Professor Burstein immediately made us feel comfortable, which made us more inclined to ask questions and engage in our learning. He made it clear that questions were not only accepted, but strongly encouraged."

  • "The subject of this class itself was very captivating, thought-provoking and intriguing. The course allowed me to broaden my knowledge of terrorism. In fact, before taking the course, I had very little knowledge of the phenomenon of terrorism. It was captivating to learn of the different types of waves of terrorism, different theories on terrorism, and different case studies. Moreover, I felt the course was very engaging. Professor Burstein did an impeccable job in engaging the class with the weeks' material. For instance, incorporating class presentations on different terrorist groups, their ideology, their main leaders, and their notable attacks was very compelling. The course incorporated a wide-range of topics and concepts. The readings itself reinforced many of the concepts discussed in class, thus furthering my understanding of the learning material."

  • "Professor Burstein's teaching style contributed most to my learning. He did an incredible job of further elaborating on the learning material. In fact, his presentations were coordinated in such a well-organized manner, which was easy to follow through. He would discuss one topic in such a detail-oriented fashion, often elaborating further with helpful examples. Professor Burstein would answer questions in the same manner as well. Due to this method of teaching, I was able to follow along with the learning material."
